Exhibition: Shall you Return Everything, but the Burden – Give everything back – except the burden
The starting point for Lebohang Kganye’s exhibition project is a collection of photographs and drawings by the German painter and photographer Marie Pauline Thorbecke, who undertook an expedition to Cameroon from 1911 to 1913 together with her husband Franz Thorbecke on behalf of the German Colonial Society. Kganye travels through the country in her footsteps 110 years later, weaving memories, impressions, and narratives from a female perspective into a video work and spatial installation.
