Discussion: Violence and resistance

Terrorist as well as state violence shape societies in their daily struggle for survival and dignity. For many artists invited to africologne, theater is a resistant and political practice. Each:r of them develops different strategies for the representation and processing of violence on stage. The panel discussion will not only be about individual artistic choices, but also about different contexts. The invitation of the productions to Cologne makes translation and surtitling necessary and changes the view of them. What decisions go into translation, how can violence be translated – and to what extent is translation itself a violent act?

The invitation of the productions to Cologne makes translation and surtitling necessary. That has an impact on how we see them.

Comment la violence peut-elle être traduite – et dans quelle mesure la traduction est-elle elle-même un acte de violence?
