Workshop: Awareness and Empowerment in Education

Racism and discrimination are a constant reality in Germany. In particular, the sometimes direct, sometimes subliminal everyday racism and the manifold discriminations in institutional areas such as the education sector represent huge burdens that have an impact from early childhood. Often, as parents of children who have experienced racism, we don’t know how to deal with it. The Pamoja Awareness concept offers an empowering approach to initiate positive changes in this regard.

In the workshop “Awareness and Empowerment in Education” we want to work out the meaning of awareness for ourselves and explore how awareness can be implemented. We want to strengthen each other in the spirit of awareness, find our resources, practice self-care, and develop action and resistance strategies to promote empowerment in our parenting together.

We deal with the questions:

How does awareness and empowerment work for us and our children?
Why do we need empowerment and how can we implement awareness in our spheres of influence?

What are my personal and our common demands against discrimination and racism in institutional education of our children?
